Interview
Ik-jo Kim, 67, Jeju 4.3 Commentator at the Jeju 4.3 Museum
"I thought I was helping the tourists, but after all, it seems that they are giving me an opportunity to study."
Kim Ik-jo’s humility and lifelong commitment to learning are notable. Even as he shares his knowledge with students and visitors about the Jeju 4.3 Incident and Korean history, he recognizes that teaching is a two-way process: every question, curiosity, or challenge from others becomes a chance for him to deepen his own understanding. It reflects his belief that education and reflection are continuous, human-centered endeavors, where the act of helping others and the act of learning are inseparable.
